“God gives you the power!”

Remember

“But remember that the Lord your God gives you the power to gain wealth.” Deut. 8:18

Receive

When we work hard and God blesses us, it’s easy to feel some pride in our efforts. Or, if one accumulates a lot of money or possessions over the years, “you might say to yourself, ‘my power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me’. ” v.17

The next verse (v.18) brings the truth to light though. “But remember that the Lord your God gives you the power (or ability) to gain wealth.”

God supplies us with the resources and the ability (power), we apply the effort. Yes, if we work harder or apply more effort, there is likely more reward. But, first there must be resources and the God-given ability to use them.

Think of a farmer when he plants a crop. God created and supplied the seed. The farmer needs to apply effort to plant them and weed it. But, God also brings the rain and causes the growth. So, the harvest or rewards are more dependent on God’s power and gracious giving than our power and marvelous works.
